For the week of 1 Lent, the writer was asked to meditate on the theme of prayer.
COLLECT OF THE WEEK
We encourage you to post your own reflections, questions or discussions in the comment section located at the bottom of the devotion.Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. - Book of Common Prayer, p. 218
“Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.” Verse 10 of Psalm 51 for today is a petition by David for God to purge his heart from sin and reset him onto the path of righteousness.
It is our natural inclination in this fallen world to please ourselves instead of God. As we fall into sin we reach a point where we must seek forgiveness or spiral downward out of control.
We are reminded during Lent that the debt for our sins has been paid for in advance by the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In our prayer this season and always, let us humbly thank Jesus for being the perfect sacrifice for our transgressions and the source for life everlasting.
We encourage you to post your own reflections, questions, or discussions in the comment section located at the bottom of each post.
