Jesus Had to Come So We Can Go
Advent is not pre-Christmas, in the Anglican calendar it is a 4-week liturgical season of its own. It is a season of preparation; we prepare our hearts for the reality that Jesus came down from heaven in the form of a baby in order to live among us, and then sacrifice on the cross for our salvation. When we celebrate the birth of Christ while remembering why he came and how he died, we open our hearts to the great gift that is Jesus. Advent is also a time when we prepare ourselves for when Jesus will come back in glory, “to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.” I hope that the families of Christ Church will take time out from the pre-Christmas grind to dig deeper into the true gift of Jesus. When you intentionally take small steps to focus on God as a family, God will magnify your efforts and bless your time tremendously. Please use the Advent@Home banner and supplies to discuss the weekly lessons as a family, taking time to pray and ask God to show you ways to make room for the coming of Jesus in your lives. Each week there will be a new scripture for you to discuss as a family, and new supplies to add to your banner. As always, please let me know if I can help you conversations or devotions or other times you come together as a family. My prayer is that as you seek to lead your children into a deeper knowledge of God’s great love through Jesus, that you will feel God’s great love for you in a more meaningful way.
