Ministry Description:

This position is under the supervision of the Rector; attendance at weekly staff meetings is expected.
Ministry Vision and Goal:
- This position will work with staff and parishioners to achieve:
- The Parish Vision: We are a church with one great purpose: ‘go and make disciples’ (Mt. 28:19). We believe God intends Christ Church to be a church where many lives are transformed for Jesus Christ.
- The Worship Vision: Offering ourselves to God in common prayer and praise.
- The Goal of the Music Ministry: with enthusiasm and dedication, to honor and glorify God through music, and to use God’s musical gifts to encourage others to open their hearts to God in worship and song.
Key Ministry Responsibilities:
- Develop vision, goals and plans for the music ministry, in support of the Parish Vision.
- Preparation and presentation of music for
- Sunday worship services;
- weddings and funerals;
- other special worship services (e.g. Christmas and Holy Week)
- other parish events and programs as assigned.
- Leadership and development of Choir and Praise Band.
- Oversee/maintain all Parish musical instruments and equipment.
- Develop/maintain budgets and communication in support of the music ministry.
Attributes:
- Willingness to ascribe to the Parish Statement of Faith
- Possessing a passion for music ministry
- The gift of encouragement - able to nurture volunteer vocalists and instrumentalists
- A minimum of an undergraduate college degree in music
- Expertise on piano and organ; the ability to accompany, conduct, & teach vocal technique
- Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor
- Ability to work both with a staff team, and as a self-starter
Skill Set:
- Degree in Music
- Play organ and piano well (bonus: play guitar also)
- Ability to rehearse a choir and teach general vocal technique
- Ability to rehearse a contemporary band
- Working knowledge of Powerpoint; also of sound board and sound/band equipment
- Organization - able to meet deadlines
- Bonus: ability to use software such as Encore or Finale
- Bonus: ability to write descants for choir and instrumentalists and arrange band music
Contemporary Service:
- Choose music for weekly service
- Prepare music for band members
- Schedule band members weekly
- Prepare/upload music in the Planning Center website
- Rehearse volunteer band members weekly
- Prepare weekly powerpoint for contemporary service
- Maintain all equipment used by the band
- Find/teach new music via CCLI website
- Lead prayer with band
- Recruit new band members
Traditional (blended) Service:
- Lead a 30-voice choir
- Choose music for the service weekly
- Choose and prepare a choir anthem weekly
- Rehearse the choir weekly
- Be responsible for all choir and instrumental music copies inc. ordering/filing
- Recruit new choir members
- Bonus: record and upload anthem parts for choir members to practice
- Bonus: maintain and update Rejoice songbook
Other:
- Attend weekly staff and liturgy meetings (currently Tuesday mornings)
- Occasionally play for musical needs outside of Sunday services
- Play for special services - wedding, funeral; Christmas, Easter, etc.
- Host occasional concerts and musical events at Christ Church
- Plan occasional outreach concerts for the choir, such as caroling
- Plan and execute team building events for the choir and the band
- Bonus: start a Children’s Choir
