Dr. David Shirley
Dr. David Shirley is an Assistant Professor with the South Carolina College of Pharmacy – Medical University of South Carolina campus. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy in 2002. He spent seven years practicing independent community pharmacy, with Prescription Center in Charleston SC where he began compounding prescriptions. In 2009, he joined Plantation Pharmacy on Wappoo Rd. in Charleston where he was Pharmacist-in-charge and the chief compounding pharmacist. As he has throughout his career, he continues to be active in educating patients and students about proper use of medications. He participates in diabetes counseling through Palmetto Pharmacist Network, and serves as a preceptor for introductory and advanced pharmacy students. In 2015, Dr. Shirley joined the College of Pharmacy to pursue his love for teaching and mentoring students. Dr. Shirley coordinates Pharmacy Law and Ethics, Compounding Laboratory, Pharmacy Calculations, and Medical Terminology courses. He is faculty adviser for National Community Pharmacy Association (NCPA) MUSC chapter and involved in other organizations including Christian Pharmacist Fellowship (CPFI) and Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity. Dr. Shirley is a long-time member of the South Carolina Pharmacy Association (SCPHA), and is currently serving the President that organization. He lives in Charleston with his wife Amy, two sons, Nate and Camden.
