OPENING SENTENCE
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth your praise. Psalm 51:15

THE PSALTER Psalm 51:10-12
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, *
and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence, *
and take not your holy Spirit from me.
12 O give me the comfort of your help again, *
and sustain me with your willing Spirit.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:*
as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

THE GOSPEL Luke 2:15-21
When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they saw it they made known the saying which had been told them concerning this child; and all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary kept all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

THE SERMON The Rev. Ted Duvall
Discuss the passage, and/or listen to the sermon below.
THE APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
     creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
     He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
     He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
     He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
     the holy catholic Church,
     the communion of saints,
     the forgiveness of sins,
     the resurrection of the body,
     and the life everlasting. Amen.

THE COLLECT
Almighty God, your blessed Son fulfilled the covenant of circumcision for our sake, and was given the Name that is above every name: Give us grace faithfully to bear his Name, and to worship him with pure hearts according to the New Covenant; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, on God, now and for ever. Amen.

YOUR OWN PRAYERS MAY BE SAID HERE

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven,
     hallowed be thy Name,
     thy kingdom come,
     thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
     as we forgive those
     who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
     but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
     for ever and ever. Amen.
